I had the same doubts. 

When I was studying in Dharwad, I had a dream. I wanted to be a techie. I wanted to break into Information Technology (IT). 

IT was booming then.

We used to see job requirements advertisements. There were full page newspaper advertisements. Mostly the advertisements were from Infosys, Wipro, Accenture and other companies.

My friends and I were curious about those. Those fuelled the dream of joining IT companies.

The skill sets required for those jobs were mostly web technologies, Cobol, HTML, Apache, Java, My SQL, CSS etc.

The educational curriculum had outdated technology like Fortran, Microprocessor programming etc. We didn’t even know about C or C++.

Now I have 17+ years of experience in the IT industry. Worked on various projects, different technologies.
